Singapore tomorrow
Discussion
Hi all,
Off to Singapore tomorrow for a week of work. I am staying at the Landmark next to Raffles Hospital. I have not been to Singapore before, any recomendations for evenings?
I will try and see my friend who is doing the clipper round the world thing and is due in Singapore in a few days, any other ideas?
Steve

Post this in the Asia regional forum - there's a bunch of Singapore-based PHers who will be able to help - XJSJohn, etc
I would suggest a boat trip up/down the Singapore River, Zoo/night safari, cable car from Mt Faber over the harbour to Sentosa island where there are various museums, parks, etc, racing at the Turf Club, shopping on Orchard, a WWII-themed tour (Battle Box, Changi Prison, etc), visit to Little India, Chinatown, nights out eating and drinking on Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, and a visist to the Kranji War memorial (well worth the trip up to the north of the island for a very sobering expereience).
And don't forget to eat. Singapore is probably THE best food-lovers destination anywhere on the planet. Hawker centres are great, Black papper crab in one of many places on the East Coast Parkway is wonderfull, always good to hunt down a good banana-leaf curry place, and try the thousands of Thai, Indonesian, Malay, Chinese, Indian, etc, etc places everywhere. It's very difficult to get anything other than a brilliant meal there.
Hope that helps! Enjoy your visit!

I'm sure XJS John will be able to suggest one or two watering holes to try out!I would suggest a boat trip up/down the Singapore River, Zoo/night safari, cable car from Mt Faber over the harbour to Sentosa island where there are various museums, parks, etc, racing at the Turf Club, shopping on Orchard, a WWII-themed tour (Battle Box, Changi Prison, etc), visit to Little India, Chinatown, nights out eating and drinking on Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, and a visist to the Kranji War memorial (well worth the trip up to the north of the island for a very sobering expereience).

I totally confused him because by pure coincidence someone had told him that day to look on PH as he was looking to buy a car! He thought it was just a website that sold cars so when I started waffling on about recommendations for Sunday lunches on the food & drink forum he had absolutely no idea what I was talking about!!

The cable car is still out of action but the flyer (big wheel) is great..............i would also suggest a visit to the Fullerton for Sunday brunch (complete with all you can drink champagne) if you are still around.
I think the current price is about S$30 for a sling in Raffles but hey everyone does it!!
China town is hotting up in time for new year so that is worth a look.
The zoo is great and the night safari is very cool.
A quick trip to east coast park to watch people try and water ski on the cable ski is very funny.......or even the wave at Sentosa.
Been here since last June and we still find new places and things to do each weekend!!!
