OK, it's 2010. How are our fabulous numberplates going to be formatted?

2001 to 2009 was easy 02/52 etc..

But this is 2010. The format was heralded as XXNN YYY where XX was registration office/area, NN was year, and YYY was the index.

So, so I assume then that they've gone "oh fook, what do we do in 2010" and changed the format to:

XXNNN YYY?? Will that no feck up systems geared for 7 characters max in the plate?

Or will the online world that is geared up for 7 character numberplates have to re-write their software before the end of February?

Why we couldn't have a simple system like the Irish Republic, I don't know. YY ZZ NNNNN (Year/County/Number)

But that was too simple for our multi-million ££££ committees of minions that come up with our stupid ideas.

The current format is OK for 49 years - so what's the problem?

Not really sure what the complaint is about but in March we will get 10, and in September 60. Next year will be 11 and 61.

S'right, it's a clear misunderstanding on my part.

There's me thinking that this was a "logical" number plate system, where the "5" signified half year, and the second digit being the year (which is how it was explained originally), hence my late night confusion over 10 - 99 getting working with this system.

I understand now, but it's still a stupid system compared to the logical Irish one.

The current system is good for 50 years, what's your problem?

last year was 09 / 59
this year is 10 / 60
next year is 11 / 61
ten years from now is 20 / 70
2049 will be 49 / 99
2050 can start with 50

only then will we run out.

From 2050 they can just "reverse" the format, so it will become YYY NN XX.
