635 CSI- Old School Cool?
Discussion
This is an itch I've wanted to scratch since i was a kid and there are now one or 2 in the classiffieds.
any advice on what they are like to live with, servicing costs etc? apart from the rust thing what should i be looking for?
Also how does the Mpower model compare,... would i regret nor extending my budget?
lastly, are there any specialist independents i can get to check one over?

I had that same itch, and scratched when a director at my old work decided to sell his.
I loved it, and to this day regret selling it. I had an 89 Highline, de-chromed with a box of history with it. The guy I bought it from had spent £4k in 3 years, and the car drove without fault. I had it for a year and used it maybe twice a week for work and at weekends (and weddings etc)
I sold it for more than I bought it for, and I still keep my eye on them now as I would love another. It got so many comments and attention (all good)
Cheaper ones could be money pits, rust on the wings needs to have been done - as very pricey to put right. Rust around the rear number plate also common. Original wheels fitted with TRX tyres which are pretty hard to find and quite pricey.
I was amazed how tight it was to drive and still very quick, makes a superb noise too. IIRC there was a motorsport 635CSI which was an auto, then the M6 which was manual. For me, the car suited the auto box so well - big comfy cruiser, with masses of class.
Do it, but dont go for a cheap one. Make sure you get one with 2 keys, as I had one break when starting the car - luckily it came out OK though, and I did have a spare.
Edited to say - running wise it does like a drink
Service at BMW was £230 and Munich Legends pretty much always have a good one - although you will pay Munich Legends prices!
