Saw the most unusual thing the other day. A crow flying about two foot off the ground being chased by a small dog. The Crow would weave around for about a minute and then perch on the children's slide out of reach of the dog before taking off again and doing the same thing. The dog owner came running over saying, "did you see that?" I bet he did not want to go home saying this strange occurance had happenened and no one else saw it.

Ever seen anything as strange?

I wouldn't have said it was particulary strange. One of my Parson russells chased a magpie, jumped up, caught it and then proceeded to eat it.

He quite often chases magpies and crows if they are flying low.

I seen that before. Also a dog trying to catch a squirrel in the park.

My Boxer dog is always chasing after squirrels, shame that they can turn at right angles even at full tilt, poor Boxer has the turning circle of a ship in comparison biggrin

There's something about this phenomenen in the lyrics of "Coyote" by Joni Mitchell

"He went running thru the whisker wheat
Chasing some prize down
And a hawk was playing with him
Coyote was jumping straight up and making passes"

Our Basset hound managed to get a Magpie and then rip it to shreds.

Bassets are mad. Mine was.

My CKCS captured and ate a robin when out for a walk one morning. I tried like hell to prize his mouth open but it was too late frown

I think the OP's point was more that the crow could have just flown away, but was taunting the dog.

Crows definitely taunt the dogs, well over the field I walk ours they do. There are a lot around and they are so used to dogs that I think they get bored at being chased so play games with the dogs (crows aren't stupid!).

They fly 2 feet above his head then eventually land several feet away, enough to entice him to chase again but safe enough distance to fly off. Sometimes Jimbo falls for it but more often than not he gives up now!

My female GSD chased birds all her life, but never caught any. They did catch a squirrel, a rabbit and a chicken between them though!

My old choc labrador used to chase fat wood pidgeons when they were slow to get off the ground, but then she also used to go underwater (fully submerged) to retrieve her toy I used to throw in the river for her.

That dog has a lovely temperament - seems to like playing with the bird, rather than trying to eat it!
Interesting hair style though.

That crow was one brave bird.

I don't think my dog ,Alf ,would have been quite so forgiving

Jake our idiot lab cross loves chasing seagulls

All day he will run up and down the beach trying to catch them running or swimming after them.

One day there was one with a broken wing and he ran after it and it just stood their knowing its end was coming.

Dog runs up to it and stops dead and gives that look that sayes "Well what the fk am i meant to do with it now its meant to fly away?"

Then wanders off ignoring the seagull that wouldn't play

We have a small (even for the breed) West Highland Terrier that has caught 2 Pigeons and 3 Blackbirds in the last couple of years - he can jump high though.
