Selling a house
Discussion
Hi everyone
My wife and I are currently in the process of selling our house and one of the forms from the solicitor has questions regarding persons "17 years or older" living in the house. It seems to infer that the "17 year or older" has rights regarding our ability to sell our home. Why would such questions be asked? BTW it does not apply in our case. Can anyone clarify this for me please?

I would think it is maybe a paying lodger (who may have some rights if you decide to sell)
I think if it is a member of your family (son etc) who was 17 yo or older, they don't have a say! (as they are family)
NB: I am not a solicitor so usual caveats apply!
Thank God for that! I was beginning to think the idiots in charge of this fine country had slipped another piece of legislation through parliament. Thank you for the reply.I think if it is a member of your family (son etc) who was 17 yo or older, they don't have a say! (as they are family)

Thank you for your insight. The reason for my initial question was that I would have thought the solicitor's question should have asked about anyone having a vested interest in the property i.e. if anyone other than myself and my wife owned the property. Instead it asked about anyone 17 years or older, alarm bells were ringing in case a stroppy teenager suddenly had rights over our plan to move (as I previously mentioned, not an issue in our case).
