Distributor (or leads) 180 out of phase, so firing on the inlet stroke.

Is plug No.1 on the distributor (does it even have one? ) - aligned to piston 1 on its compression stroke - not its exhaust stroke.
Sorry - not familar with your engine at all - suprised it even has a carb?

tht was my m8 that was talking. heres the problem, my girlfriends car snapped the timing belt. So i removed the head had it rebuilt and a full new head set. Fitted it all with all tolerences in limit made sure piston is at TDC and firing order is correct. the timing has been checked over and over again and every timing mark is in place (camshaft, crankshaft and crank pulley). It almost fires then there is a pop and the throttle body bursts into flames like there is a backfire from the throttle body. I have repeatedly check that the valves are opening in the correct sequence. Any help would be much be very appreciated thanks.

Normal English is resumed smile
Only time I've come accross the intake catching fire like that is when your'e firing on the inlet stroke not the compression stroke. So if you have checked that - I'm done.
We need someone with a little more experience of that motor for more suggestions.

Firing at the wrong time.

Either- Cam timing is out
Distributor or rotor (if there is one) on wrong
Plug leads on wrong

You did get new valves fitted, didn't you?
