I have a two piece targa section created by Surface and Design. The rubber strip in question is indeed a groved strip that slides onto the edge of the roof. The roof itself is like new (it should be - it was only done last year), it's just the adhesive has given up th ghost.
If its T section into the metal groove it shouldn't need glue
I once read a tip on the Chimp forum about hairspray but have never tried/needed it

Sonic,
It shouldn't need to be glued in, the rubber seal should push back in, bit fiddly to do, but the roof panels have a groove in them to avoid having to use glue.
Cheers

On closer inspection (after I bought the glue and bothered to look outside the gloom of the garage) you are indeed right. Going to take the roof off and do it in the kitchen where I can see what the hell I'm doing. It shouldn't need to be glued in, the rubber seal should push back in, bit fiddly to do, but the roof panels have a groove in them to avoid having to use glue.

Hope you're well
