I'm thinking again about getting something as a road-legal trackday toy and it'll probably be another Elise, an Exige or a Mini.

I've checked the search but couldn't find a definite list of the differences between the standard S and the JCW.

What exactly are the advantages and the physical differences between them?

You talking about the supercharged R53's? or the turbo R56?

In the case of the R53's not much, for a track day car I'd save my money and get an S. It can easily and cheaply be modified to be far more powerful than a standard JCW. There's no point in paying the premium for a JCW for a track toy.

For R56, there's a lot more differences between the S and the JCW. The JCW would be a much better starting point.

The R53 has no overboost as its a supercharger.
JCW:It is still 210 BHP, but it was an after purchase add on costing about £3000. Cars should have a certificate, I belive differences are a re map, bigger injectors and cylinder head, airbox, and SS exhaust system aswell as different supercharger pulley.

Further to my last post, The early JCW were 200BHP, and from late 2004 they were 210BHP
(There was a change in the normal cooper S aswell)

It really depends as a number of them just had the standard £3k upgrade fitted by the dealer however you also had factory fitted JCW which were of a much higher spec.

My My factory JCW also had a number of the other extra's John Cooper offered aswell as the performance upgrade - I.e Wheels, Brakes, Strutbrace, Suspension, Leather Recaro Seats etc, Carbon Fibre dash board area

See my below advert - This car had every single JCW & Mini extra on the list

This all depends mate.

An S R65 or R53 takes around 7 seconds to get to 60.

Visual differences are the bodykit and wheels, and spoiler.

However some cars are said to be JCW but dont have the 200+ BHP. e.g they have all the looks but still same performance as a regular S.

A full fat JCW will hit 60 in around 6.5 seconds and have all the kit and toys.
