LM in car Porshe 956
Discussion
I've been watching a bit of this on a Duke DVD compilation over the weekend , it really did strike me how much the pits and facility buildings have changed , even in the three times I have been since 06 , massive changes , I suppose some things for the better other for the worse ? I love the sound of the engine , sounds great doesn't it ?

It is interesting to see how the track and the view there has changed. Scary speeds down that straight - I'm no racing driver, but have never been to nervous, but seeing what they do, particularly at night really highlights the difference between 'them and us'. Great video there - I have every DVD since I've been but need to start working backwards too!
In Car 956 footage is jaw dropping - fantastic when tootling along Mulsanne on Friday in something insipid (done it in a Landy and a Prius so can legitimately claim uninspiring prizes) to be able to reinvisage what the kink and hump must have been like at full chat in a proper Group C.
In terms of working back in video coverage once you get back to 1980/81 you notice that TV cameras were really at a premium and the footage basically involved the same camera slowly moving around the track - they're okay and good to have but nothing like we get these days - and shows how innovative the In Car 956 product was in its day.

My home here was previously owned by Jean-Daniel Raulet who was a Peugeot driver in the 1990's. When I bought the house I noticed all the photos in the study and he pointed one out to me of the 905 which had been given some aerodynamic treatment (ike no rear view mirrors) purely for straight line speed. Apparently, before the chicanes existed of course, he clocked up over 250mph to create an unofficial record. Never been able to verify it but he swore it was so. Mind you, going back in time, hitting 170mph in A D-type with narrow cross-ply tyres must have taken guts!
Slight digression here guys but this has brought back a lot of memories for me - I must hook out my old cassette of 'In car 956' which is hiding somewhere in the loft methinks. I used this video as my guide for how to drive the ring before my first visit there about 13/14 years ago. Now I try to go to the ring whenever the Frankfurt motor show is on - it makes the ideal stopover.
