Ed Balls on The Politics Show now!
Discussion
I'm staggered by the charge made by Labour that the Tories are social engineering with their marriage tax proposals.
Not that they are social engineering, they are, but the outright hypocrisy of Labour, what have Labour done the past 12years than advanced their own social engineering agenda...
Ed Balls is moving up my 'bat list' - Mandleson, Byrne, Harman, Hain, Balls, Broon - Oh for the sound of willow chasing Labour out of Downing Street.
Although after debating politics with my brother (something we haven't argued about for years), we came to the conclusion that despite having some different views & some similar we both felt no party really represented our views amongst the big 2 or 3, so even motivated (for a change) to go out to vote, I find myself disenfranchised by no party really representing my views. And although a truism that no party but your own would represent your own specific views, that it's a case of the least worst choice getting your vote.
When pushed, tellingly my brother was of the view that he would be forced to think hard and would probably vote for the party that best protected his own personal vested interest, and not on principal, ideology, or best interest of the country.
I see how Labour could get voted back in.

I don't think they understand hypocrisy.
I logged onto the labour website this morning to see what all the fuss was about this air brushed cameron poster.
http://www.labour.org.uk/
Right on the main page they are going to town on the airbrushed poster with 'is what you see what you'd get?' 'they need more than an airbrush to make their policies appealing'
Then you click on the page for Gordon Brown......

I'm watching his stream of verbal diarrhoea ..
Interviewer: "the gap between rich and poor has doubled under this labour government"
Balls: "poverty has gone down .. more people going to university .. higher employment"

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation 2009 report on poverty and social exclusion (above) is an indictment of Labour's record on increasing poverty. So while Balls claims Labour has been closing the gap between rich and poor while pouring money into public services, the underlying rate of poverty and its causes have grown.
- The unemployment rate among 16 to 24 year-olds is higher than at any point since 1993 when the measure was inroduced
- Unemployment has been rising since 2005, and the young adult unemployment rate stopped falling as long ago as 2001
- The number of children in low-income households where at least one adult works is, at 2.1m, the highest it has ever been
The problem I find is a lack of accountability.
These politicians can come on V and flat out LIE to your face without the fear of repercussions. It's the same with their policy pledges during the Election run up.
If there was a way to tie them into to actually doing what they say, or face consequences, we'd be able to stop a lot of this 'Soundbite' politics.

He's quite useless. Good news having him on TV etc, so that people can really see what a hopeless shower we have in charge.
Only problem is that how many people actually watch shows like this? Are the traditional Labour heartland voters really that interested? Everybody who isn't a Labour voter knows what a bunch of f
kwits they are anyway.norby1 said:
