Hello,

Description of the problem is via my non mechanically minded sister so may be lacking in detail, still anyone know what could cause the following:

- Engine stalls and the check engine light comes on (and usually stays on) then the engine won't restart (usually, sometimes it does).
- Stalling has happened on level motorways or at in town speeds

So far the garage has replaced ignition coils and updated the ECU software but the problem has re-occured.

It seems the idle control valve is a common problem on this engine but don't see why that would be a problem at high speed.

Any suggestions, she is at her wits end and thinking of changing the car. The car is a 2005 1.8 C-max. Recommendations for a good Ford garage in South London also solicited.

Cheers

Ben

Do you know what fault code was recorded?

Could be caused by numerous different faults e.g fuel pump relay, fuel pump, crank/cam position sensor.

I will try to find out what the fault code was. However I suspect it was to do with the coil packs as that is what the garage have replaced. Crank sensor seems a good thing to try next. The AA man has at some point tried swapping the fuel pump relay for another one and that did not do it.
