I have been looking around at different worktops eg glass, granite, quartz, Corian etc, any one got an idea of the cost per meter for each ?

I don't know where you are in the country, but I found this place online and plan to use them for our new kitchen. It will allow you to enter all the details and get a quote immediately (no contacting you a few days later so they can twist your arm over the phone wink ).

As I haven't actually contacted them yet, this is not a recommendation, just a pointer as to how you could price up what you might want. I got a local firm to quote and they were over £1k dearer for the same materials and layout (this place worked out about £2.5k).

I think they are Bedford based, but will travel out of course. Many of the materials are also available on display samples in places like John Lewis wink in case you don't know which one to get a quote for.

Or keep the Worktops you have, and slide on a a little Granite on Top

Nice idea. When poor I once tarted up my horribly beige kitchen by sticking formica on the top and an oak edging on the front - it did well until replaced by solid cherry in 2008.

Its almost impossible to give a quote per metre as there are so many variables involved, it depends on how many cut outs you have for hobs and sinks, they could need polished cut outs or just a rough cut, drainer grooves or a recessed drainer? how many edges will need polishing or edged, plus there are about six price bands for both granite and Corian. I personally wouldn't go for glass because they scratch very easily.
