Hi all,

Me and the misses are looking for a table, 8 seater. The budget is around £1,500 but maybe more including chairs.

I have been around the usual stores and there is not much for the larger tables.

Looking for a nice wood table (Oak?), with good leg positioning for space, or ideally an inner box section for space looks.

I am now starting to cruise eBay to get something cool- any other suggestions chaps? Custom?

You'll probably get more results on eBay (and, indeed, the Internet in general) if you spell it 'dining'.

Complete tangent here but i wanted an American Pool table, my better half wanted an 8 seater dining table.

We had the room for only one and after much surfing around found a firm that made solid slate bedded American League size pool tables with brass height adjusters and solid mahogany dining surfaces.

One of the best investments i've made.

Everyday it sits at the lower height in its "dining" state and when the mates come round, the covers come off and it lifts up to playing height. When lowered you cant tell the difference from a normal dining table.

Just a thought smile

Hi,

The picture of it on their website looks rubbish, but in real life I think it's beautiful:

THIS is a really lovely table (well I would think so, I bought one a couple of years ago!)

It folds in half and the table top slides across so you can have it as a 4 seat table with a leg at each corner, or fully opened out and slid across it can seat 8 without any trouble and no one gets a leg!

It's also the perfect size for subbuteo wink

It's oiled oak, and looks a lighter colour than their picture. IIRC the Refectory chairs go well with it (meaning total cost would be around £1100)

Cheers for the advice chaps-including dining smile

We don't need a foldable table, as the room is a dedicated dining room- however the switchable table/pool table is very cool!

The hunt continues.

We have some of their furniture and the quality is very good. Not sure about prices though as we bought direct from their factory shop.

Funny thing, furniture. Last year I had to dispose of a nice solid oak dining table - it went off to a local auction house, failed to sell twice, and on the third attempt went for £15.

Tables not much different are on sale in the local classy furniture shop with price tags of £800+, and presumably people buy them. Weird.

Yes but Simpo we don't listen to you when it comes to furniture. You have a bad rep, especially when it comes to furnishings for the bedroom. biggrin

Why not get in touch with a local cabinet maker bod and ask him to design and quote to your spec?

Heals usually have nice dining tables.

Just had a look and there's quite a lot off in the sales.

Probably doesn't help much, but we recently bought a large table from

http://www.earlysettler.com.au/furniture/listing_d...

it's 2.5 x 1.5 and I use one end as an office at the moment. Cost about five hundred pounds - we already had enough chairs.

Leg right at each corner so it can seat 12 if necessary - made in India.

I really like it - fortunately the room it sits in is 8 x 4 so plenty of space.

Could get a chunky oak pool table with dining top for your budget.

I've got this one from Halo.

I like it. A lot.

Although you'll need the next size up to get 8 seated comfortably.

Have you thought about getting one custom made?

Can suggest plenty of people to do it, but i don't think they are particularly local to you, however there must be people in the UK that will do this too!?
