Hi all,
Kept me head down low after the incident last summer (crashed my car after about 3 weeks and wrote it off!).

I am back in the game and have my eye on a seemingly nice Raw striker 4age (whats your thoughts?) although im yet to have a good sniff around it. Hopefully I will have something by the summer!!
A very horrible but honest thought process popped into my head today. It was something like...
I have about £6K to spend (loan not cash burning a hole in my pocket!)...
I could by alot of things with that....
My yearly millage is limited to 1500 miles....
My loan will take 2 years to pay off, thats £4 per mile. Not including interest, fuel, insurance, maintainance, tax etc.....
I dont even have a garage for it....
And I want to do track days......
Thats alot of money....
But Im stilling going to do it, roll on the summer!!!
Im I mad and should wait or should I just do it? Oh to make things worse I have already booked to go to the ring in the summer, I STILL HAVE NO CAR!!!

Thanks for any replies, brutal and honest!

Why are you limited to 1500 miles a year? My car will probably cover that by Easter!

Otherwise, if you an afford it, then why not? Ok, it's maybe not the most sensible use of cash, but if you enjoy the car then why not? You only live once after all.

My insurance policy limits me to 1500 miles. Its the only way I could get insured after my accident (plus I have points and had other accidents). I really enjoy it and to be honest will obsess about it. its just alot of money. £270 a month or something!!

Does it have a removable steering wheel? You probably want to keep clear of it if it does tongue out

Whoa, is that £270 a month for loan and other bits, or £270 a month for insurance....if it's the latter then you've lost the plot as that will total £3200 per year on top of the loan amount......you'll be at a tenner a mile easily at that rate with track days etc on top

If you can afford it and it makes you happy then its fine - it could be a lot worse; you could be spending your cash on crack and hookers...

You're biggest problem is the lack of garage I reckon. The inevitable moisture attack on the car will mean that it looks like crap in no time meaning that you get hit hard for depreciation too.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd go cheap and cheerful. I've owned kits worth £3650 - £13k and its amazing how much pleasure the cheapest (X-flow Striker) gave me!

£270 for loan. Insurance should be about £700 total which I will just pay when it comes up.

I was worried about the garage situation. My thought was that mine and everbody elses cars sit outside. They dont rust to bits. The interior wont get wet, I hope!

You must be keen...but good luck. Its your money and as long as something sensible is nt being sacrificed for it then nobody has any right to tell you not to buy it.

Get up now, walk to the door, get bus (save on your mileage) and go buy it! smile

I have a Raw Striker with a 1.8 zetec in, its amazing! 1500 miles will fly by and you will be left with a big smile! The only down side is that you need a lot of nice weather to drive it, they are not much fun in the wet on roads with traffic.

Good luck!

Got a striker, you will be surprised what leaving it open to the elements will do to it, not a good plan IMHO.
But the good bit is they're very small - got room for a big shed?

If you've got off street parking, buy / make something to keep it in, the cost for say a 12' x 6' wooden shed would be more than covered by the savings in maintenance.

Or at the very very least invest in a custom made (don't think anybody makes one off the peg - be very happy to be corrected!)top quality, all weather car cover.

Nice combo.

Did I read about your previous car on the Locost forum?
