Thermostat housing to swirl pot...

I fitted a set of ACT coolant hoses at the weekend ... the top hose that goes between the thermostat housing and the swirl pot seems a bit "wrong". The thermostat end seems fine but the swirl pot end seems too large a diameter for the swirl pot inlet pipe.

I've clamped it down using a jubilee clip and it doesn't leak but it definitely looks the wrong size.

ACT have said that it sounds like the inlet to the swirl pot is 35mm rather than 38mm and have said they'll send out a 35-38mm reducing hose (same as used on the water pump to rad bottom hose) - is this likely to be the case? Are there two sizes of swirl pot inlets?

(I hasten to add that ACT have been very good here - answered my email within a few minutes and have been only to happy to help ... just don't want to waste them sending out a hose unnecessarily. )

I used the ACT set and had no problems. I know this doesn't help you, but if the ACT sets are consistent then there must be differences in swirl pot design.

I've just borrowed one from work so will do so but didn't have one in my armoury until now - I'm pretty sure I remember trying that 38-35mm hose on that connection on Suday and thinking that it fitted much better so I reckon I'll just get them to send me one out.
