Remember that balls up in 'Ashes to Ashes' with the wrong Rover?
Well, I was thinking today about the lack of old classic cars in films. Why dont they do a CGI one?

Perhaps a company could set up a list of required cars for differing era? I mean, if they can create the illusion of spaceships and alien worlds then a 1980 Ford Escort cannot be that hard can it?

I dont mean driven or whatever but just as background furniture.

It's a lot harder to create real things than fake things.
You would pick up a wrong shadow or something off about a fake car without knowing what was wrong. That it just looks wrong feeling. Probably easier/cheaper to use a real car!

TV Drama has a fraction of the budget that film has and shorter deadlines. CGi (done to decent broadcast standards) would cost too much to make this viable.

The easiest and cheapest options would be to consult motoring continuity experts - people that actually know a thing or two about cars rather than simply searching for a 1982 whatever.

was really impressed by the attention to detail on "The Bank Job" not a fantastic movie, but certainly watchable, I seem to recall a lot of the street scenes were done with cgi.
