Hey guys,

I'm looking for a 360 Modena at the lower end of the pricing scale and came across this one: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1439178.htm

Does anyone know it? On the face of it; it looks like a bargain, but I'm wondering if it's real or a scam advert?

The number has been going straight onto voicemail all day. Additionally it's described as having electric daytona seats but I can see the manual knobs for the seats in one of the pictures.

Cheers

To good to be true!. I looked at one same colour described similarly did a 300 mile round trip, when I got there it had quite clearly been in an accident and repaired by someone who hasn't a clue.
Good un's are hard to find.

Not really sure of what to look out for, but the interior image was previously on Autotrader (watermark top left).

Could be that he didn't have a picture of the interior, so just grabbed one that looked identical to his car, a 'library' photo, if you like.

Make of it what you will. I dare not say anything about any car for fear of being growled at! hehe

Other than the steering wheel that is a lovely looking car IMO!

Is that price purely down to the miles? If not, where is the rust/missing engine/cat D status, etc?!

This is ridiculous! Now I get what I call "showroom syndrome" i.e whenever I go near a car showroom I get this almost unbearable urge to buy a car. It's like woman and shoes! It's even worse if the car is a bargain!

But the thing is, I don't like the 456 at all, but I get very excited by a bargain like that!

If that is the reason then thats bloody stupid IMO. 41K miles on a V12 is no miles at all on such an epic low stressed engine.

Yes for two grand less you could have the following.....***CATEGORY D*** WITH KEYS. STARTS. DAMAGE TO OFFSIDE, REAR OFFSIDE QUARTER AND BRAKELIGHT, REAR OFFSIDE WHEEL AND SUSPENSION, REAR, REAR BUMPER, BOOT LID.

With maybe 10K+ damage to repair, i know which direction my 20K would go.

Yup, old sub-£20k v12 ferrari sounds great! ..until you have to maintain and service it... coz it's still a £100k+ car to service. I love em, but talking to a well known dealer (Kenny Dunn) in Edinburgh who had a TDF/tan 456, he reckoned £5k/yr, every year for servicing it.

using my odd logic on that 456, i doubt it is a worthwhile purchase.

if foskers have taken it in p/ex (which i presume they have), they would surely look at it and work out what work they would need to carry out in order to retail it (complete with warranty). if they do the work themselves, the cost of these works would almost certainly be less than it would cost you or i.

i'm not sure what profit margin they would work into the car for a retail sale, but i would guess at circa £5k.

so if the 456 has a retail value and they can't see the point in sorting it out so they can retail it on, that must tell us something about what the car needs.

if they are selling for £20k, perhaps they paid £15k for it... if it is worth circa £35k retail, then i guess it could arguably require circa £15k work at 'in-house' rates to make it 'retailable' again.

advertising the car as a trade sale, is a good way to get around selling a nail in an honest manner!

lovely car though.

(all of the above is purely speculative and i look forward to being brought down in flames for my posting of unsubstantiated rubbish)

Neither the 360 nor the 456 mentioned in this thread is priced unusually. At the low end of the range sure, but not suspiciously so. The 360 was the first real volume V8 and sits in an unusual place in the market, between the classic (355) and the contemporary (430); it doesn't get a lot of love, though I enjoyed mine hugely and sold it sooner than I wanted. It's definitely unfinished business for me.

The 456 looks in good nick from the pics. It's an early car (94) so it had issues, but I assume they've been sorted by now. With a V12 of course you're purchasing running costs and potentially cotly repairs. I've had one for close on 10 years now, and it averages out at £4.2k per year including pretty much everything (insurance, servicing, fuel), though to be fair I haven't driven it that much in the last few years and can't be arsed putting in stuff like road tax and mats so it nets out a little higher than I've listed. You could do it cheaper if you wanted; I don't mess about, and if something looks iffy it gets fixed, no discussion, so I'm sure I've gone over the top many time. 'They' say you should only buy a Ferrari if you could afford to buy two, and in this case they are probably right!

If that 360 is straight at that price I would be very surprised. I looked at a lot of cars when searching for mine and every one that seemed to be cheap or even slightly below averaged price had issues. When searching I wouldn't venture out the house unless the cars had full history or at least the dealer/ seller claimed it had, and most of the cars I viewed were missing stamps mot's etc etc. Lots were advertised as perfect and I'd get there to find seats badly warn, carpets thread bare and so on.
If it's straight and level that car is I would say 8 or 9k light. I look forward to hearing from the first viewer!.
