Oil Temp Sensor

Hi

Am currently doing lots of wee niggly jobs as well as fitting a new radiator. For a while now on start up the oil temp is at 37 ish deg. It stays there for a while then as the engine warms up will gradually increase as the norm. The temps are normal when in traffic at 90deg and 60-70deg on the motorway etc just seems to never go below the 37 deg mark even when left for a week or so.

Do you think I am need of the oil temp sender in the oil tank? Also is that the Thermistor (ie on powers website.

Could be a broken wire in the sensor. While tidying my engine bay my sensor had the wires both magically fall out. Its a thermistor inside a brass screw-in body, short wire tail to a connector. Mounts half way down the oil reservoir tank on driver side. Cant explain why you'd get a high reading when cold, but guess it could be a high resistance contact. £40 will tell you if the theory is good

Had a look today and gave all the contacts a good clean but still fluctuating between 36 and 37 deg when ignition is on without the engine turned on so think I will order a new one.

Mine is always in minus figures when the car is cold, then struggles to get above 50-55 on a run, if in traffic it goes up to 65 ish. It had a new sensor just before i bought the car.

It appears to read 12 degrees under the actual temp, does not cause an issue as its only an indication as to when its ok to get on the loud peddle.

You gotta love them. Yours read minus mine reads too high when cold. As you say it it just an indicator as such for when you can give it beans.

Thought I could get the niggle sorted but just received my last 2 silicon hoses to fit the new alu radiator so think a test drive is in order tomorrow since the weather up here is looking

Been having withdrawl symptons has been 4 weeks of snow and a burst radiator but all is now fitted and I have repainted all the outriggers and suspension arms/waxoiling etc.
