Did I do the right thing?
Discussion
I was sledging with some friends last week, and one of my friends ran into what turned out to be one of those fancy Nokia's, with the keyboard and touch screen (N95 perhaps?). Anyway, we went into the phone book and rang the 'Home' number, but it came up as not in use. Anyway, one of my other 'friends' (I actually think he's a bit of a tosspot) decided at this point to take the SIM out and snap it. He then said "let's sell it and make some money!". I didn't feel this was right, but kept my mouth shut as I didn't see what I could do, as he had the phone. However, he then put it in my bag for safe keeping, and forgot to take it out. I took it home, and tried the 'Home' number again. It didn't work, so I then went into the messages, and found one which was obviously from the guy's girlfriend. So I rang her number, and she came and collected his phone (he'd apparently been going crazy looking for it, but had also taken his SIM out of the phone....so which SIM was it that was in there? god knows). Anyhow, did I do the right thing? I did sneak behind my friend's backs and did them out of some ill-gotten money, but at the same time I returned a very expensive phone to its rightful owner. What would you have done?

was she fit?
Sadly not. Also, the 'friend' who snapped the SIM is a friend of a friend of a friend. I don't really associate with him too much, he just happened to be there that day.
The reason I'm asking is because someone else, who found out what I did, thought I was stupid and should have sold it, and pocketed the cash myself. I do see his point in some ways, as I didn't really get anything for all the trouble of ringing round the numbers, using my airtime etc, and could have had £100+, but at the same time I'd have felt a bit guilty.

You did exactly the right thing - well done.
Your 'friend' sounds like a right tosser.
As above! My wife had her phone stolen just before Christmas. It wasn't the handset she was worried about despite any replacement costs. It was the 250+ phone numbers in the address book that she needed, though shes learnt her lesson and now has them backed up elsewhere. I'd guess it was the same for the owner of the N95.Your 'friend' sounds like a right tosser.
Your mate sounds like an absolute prick and I' be having second thoughts as to why I wanted to know him TBH....
