The Texas Billionaire has refocused his energy plans to revolve around our abundant natural gas reserves. Higher octane and cleaner than other fuels. He has legislation before Congress and 127 official supporters. If his plan to equip the nation's freight haulers in this fashion comes to some fruition, we can radically cut out foreign oil imports. I realize he stands to make money from this, but hey, that is how progress is made
I like his statement that "Ethanol is a stupid fuel". hehe

Won't the country then just form a new dependence on natural gas?
Surely if it's valuable now then it would be being exploited already?

Cheaper than paying the arabs for oil.

Not really. It is has always been used for heating, etc; however, to use it effectively in the fashion he proposes can be done with large overhauling of incentives, laws, then infrastructure.

Similar over here with LPG. What has reduced take-up is the fear that the government would raise taxes on gas once enough people had committed (spent the money on conversion).

We have LPG vehicles in limited numbers. Not sure about others but Natural Gas here is seeping out of every hole in the ground.

Nah, opec will decrease production so there is still a presumed shortage, and up the price some more.

Best be careful with naked flames.

Mr Pickens always strikes me as a common sense guy. I watched a programme on him during the elections last year and he struck me as a no bullst kind of bloke you could trust. If he can find a way to switch all the semis from expensive diesel to something else that is cheaper, cleaner and abundant then good on him.

What's happening with hydrogen fuel cell? I thought that was the future? Whilst I'm waiting for that I'm fancying a 6.2 litre Camaro 2SS...........

Pickens worked with my Uncle in the oil business in Houston for many years. He is in his 80s and wealthy enough to tell it like he wants to. Although he was always that way it appears. Hydrogen cells are moving fast forward. The military is fielding them in fleets of dune buggy type rovers; that will likely push their development ahead. I assume natural gas is just one of the ways forward. It is likely the one standing to make Pickens the most money. smile
