Hey people!! my 325 sport has developed a minor issue, the temp gauge never goes past quarter anymore and i remember it used to sit bang on halfway for as long as i remember! maybe 5 years! water and heating is ok and no overheating problems! Any ideas would be muchly appriciated

Possibly look at replacing the thermostat. If its the same as the e36 320 I had its a very simple job.

If it stays at 1/4 even if the car is stationary for a few minutes then it'll be the brown temperature sensor on top of the engine, near the front, not far from where the rad pipe comes in from the top.

There's a blue and a brown one next to each other - blue is a two pin sensor for the ECU and brown is one pin for the dash. They're cheap as chips from GSF or Euro car parts so it won't hurt to replace both.

They can be a bit fiddly to get a spanner down to without removing the long injector wiring box thingy so if you can find a long socket to go over them (without snapping the top off the new sensor like I did hehe) then that will make it much easier.
