Rear Screen

Hi All

Warned you all there would be tye odd stupid newbie questions, so here goes....

Now that the warmer weather is with us I've been thinking about al fresco motoring. I've read a bit about the rear screen, metal clips etc. but couldn't really find any definitive comments on driving with the roof off and rear screen in place. Does this work or would I end up watching it fly off in my mirror? From what I can see the boot lid applies pressure to the clips so what benefit do the metal ones bring?

And how do i tell if I have a smaller screen?

Hi NOt sure how you tell which is the smaller rear screen however if you have the plastic clips then they will bend (mine were like bows) and when the pressure builds up the screen just does a disappearing act. I replaced mine with raceproved metal ones where they really clamp hard onto the screen and have tested it at numerous leptons with the roof off and screen in and no problems.

I would be a bit apprehensive about roof off/rear screen in with the plastic ones. It is supposed to be nice up here tomorrow(Edinburgh) so just drive up here and take the roof off and screen out

if you keep you're speed low (not higher than 60 mph) the rear screen must be ok
you wont like it but it will stay in place
the reason why you won't like it is because the sound this will give you
it's like a little wirlwind
the faster you drive the more you will like to take the rear windscrean out

The larger screen has a 'bulge' out on the sides - hard to explain!

I used ot have both - kept the bigger one but actually there was nothing wrong with the old one. Had to take a bit of time lining it up but it never leaked. i.e. don't worry about it.

Personally whatever clips you have, I would always remove the rear screen if you are likley to go above 60 - I worry about what it could do to a biker on the motorway.

The clips are a real improvement but if your old ones are fine I probably wouldn't meddle. Only changed mine as I could no longer close one of them.

It also sounds much, much better screen out!

The trick is, roof off with screen in, windows down. If you leave the windows up it starts to resinate. I have cruised at 100mph with the rear screen in and windows down.

I concur that the metal clips allow you to screw the window in tighter, although not tested at VMax yet!
One of my plastic clips broke in half necessitating the replacement - the metal ones look much better too. Thumbs up to RaceProved.

Be careful, my friend lost his screen on a dual carriageway, went back to get it but had been run over by a truck. It wasn't cheap to replace and he had to wait ages for delivery and couldn't use his car.
