Hi,

I've got a 'noise' coming from the rear drivers side on my BM...

What does it sound like?
When driving it sounds like a squeaking noise, like the handbrake is stuck on or something. (Like you're squeezing a mouse)
when stood next to the car, it sounds more like a rubbing / grinding grating noise - like rubbing brakes

Now, I'm sure you'd all agree it sounds like rubbing brakes.

HOWEVER..

This only happens when...
It started happening when going round a left corner with the power on. power off the noise stops.
it's been getting worse over time and now it does it when I accelerate or decelerate - mash the clutch, the noise goes away.
Chuck it into a left corner and it gets worse, take the power off and it stops.

I've jacked the car up and spun the wheel (handbrake off, out of gear, wheels chocked) around and it has a tight spot on it, where it kind of grinds on something

Took it to a garage asking them to check the brakes over - that didn't sort it, they replaced the drive shaft, which sorted the problem - for about a month, now it's back, came on the same way as before, sounds like exactly the same thing.

So either my drive shaft lasted me a month, or something else is wrong.

Opinions / ideas welcomed.

Thanks for reading,

Tom

It might be the differential/guibo/driveline?

Sometimes the stress on the differential can fracture the bolts/hangar that keep it in place - perhaps it's fractured only on the left hand side and therefore you only get on left hand turns?

Just a thought.

Ok, I've taken some images of the driveshaft where it goes into the hub. Looks like the drive shaft is scraping on something. Possibly the little nipple in the first pic.

I'm going to paint the part that looks like it is rubbing which should confirm if my theory is correct.

If it is I'll need to figure out what what is causing the play in it.
