Im looking to get into trade floor support (IT) but I dont have any experience of any trading systems & all the jobs Im wanting to apply for need someone with experience of these which is understandable but how can I gain some experience? At the moment Im working for a well known advertising/media company but before that I was working for a financial PR company & had training courses ar Bloomberg etc but this was about 6 years ago.

Thanks

Any general IT qualifications or skills?
To be honest, the simplest way would seem to be to work for one of the software companies - ie. tech support jobs for Bloomberg, Reuters, Sungard, Fidessa etc. - the money isn't the same (IT money not banking money) even though the job can be similar, but you get the skills, get the knowledge of all the key stuff like FIX , whoever's system it is, business flow etc. and can do what everyone I work with does - quit after 2-3 years either from stress or to earn the big money at a bank in London.

Thats some good advice! I'd rather the skills & experience than qualifications really.

Thanks

I've been doing 1/2nd line support for the last 5 years in my current job for a large media agency along with some 3rd line support, working with the infrastructure team etc. At the moment Im doing everything from running my site, project work, hardware/softwre rollouts & maintaining/supporting buying/planning applications and everything in between but before this I was working for a financial PR company in the city and supported Bloomberg/Reuters/Factiva terminals & attended a couple of training sessions at the Bloomberg offices in London.

What I want to do is trade floor support but Im finding it really hard to get in to as I dont have any recent experience if the systems that are being used..

So SeaD, did you ever get your new role?

(Yes, I know this is a hell of a "wake the dead" thread, but I work for one of the companies listed).
