Complaint/fault with ring advise please

Hi guys, wanted your advice if i may?
I have a 18ct white gold engaement ring. Brought in 2004 from a high street store ending in Jones.
In November i noticed a claw (princess cut square diamond in 4 claw setting) had become "catchy" on some clothes so i took it off. I took it to an independant jewellers for repair (previous customer service issues with origonal store) when they tried to repair it they struggled.
They say it is very porus and believe it is not a UK mount and very substandard. It is still unrpaired.
I called the high street store customer services number and they have been terribly unhelpful. Want to take days to investigate the manufactorer of the ring and claim they only offer a 12 month warranty but "may" consider repair upto 6 years.
I will take the ring into the local store so they can send it to head office or where ever (cust serv. didnt know) where they will look into it.
Is the outcome going to be as bleak as I fear?
