I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, but I quite fancy the look of this on DVD; has the PH mob got things to say about it? Never seen an episode in my life but I've heard good things about it scratchchin

The fan club will be along soon.

Be careful of 'Spoilers' when you run a search on the subject.

Dirk Benedict was never that hot as Starbuck!!

Ok, i'm a fan of BSG but not normally sci-fi....and yes i've banged on about BSG on some other threads already. tongue out

Took me a while to be persuaded to watch it, because i assumed it would be the same old bullst sci-fi cliches.

However, i read this write-up from Charlie Brooker in the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2008/apr/12/tele...
He's a cynical (and bloody funny) SOB to say the least and I was suprised he was giving it even a mild endorsement.

So I checked it out. The opening 3-hr miniseries is 'ok' but i reckon its not until the first proper episode '33' that most people get hooked.

Most of the trailers are a bit crap and don't give you much sense of what the series is like, but here's the best one i've seen:

So if this appeals then go watch it! biggrin

Agreed. It's a rare show that transcends its genre. Though it cannot be taken out of sci-fi as some have stated previously.
For me, it's on a par with the Sopranos and was essential viewing when it was on...so much so that I am plussing the repeats on at 5 in the morning and watching them. It's around the eye of Jupiter storyline so quite riveting. Hopefully the Plan will be on soon enough.

It's very good. Not perfect, but very, very good.

It's very good, far more than just a sci fi show and its up there with other good shows like West Wing, Sorpranos. Character development is very good and you will really feel for their plight.

You can buy all the 4 seasons for about £30, most of these probably won't include the last ten episodes as the last season got split.

Make sure you start with the "Mini-Series" if you're going to pay out for box sets smile

I had heard things about it for a few years.

I like sci-fi but I am no Trekkie, and thought that this might be the same so never go into it.

Then last summer, just by chance by father in law was watching the start of the pilot. I was hooked in ten minutes. I got the pilot - mini series from Lovefilm and loved it.

To cut a long story short, by the end of last summer I had watched every single episode from series one until the end, sometimes watching three or four a day.

It is not just sci-fi, it is politics, racism, war, and mostly what is means to be 'human'. Whoopi Goldberg herself has presented to the UN some of the topics brought up in it, and it even gave us the word 'Frak'. You'll see what I mean. smile

Even Ikea stock the extendable shaving mirror Adama uses - three guesses what the product name is...!

The way the series moved on and the depth and quality of the story was superb - you really want to know what happens. Also the production values are great - decent money was spent even on things like the music. You'll see what I mean when you first hear the version of 'All Along the Watchtower'. One of the most memorable things I have ever seen on TV.

Watch it, you won't regret it, ever.

It is fking awesome. Sure, there are some slow episodes, even some of the story arcs are slow. The payoff, however, is in the epic season cliffhangers, which are actually proper cliffhangers. Oh, and you won't be able to guess the plot. The writing is superb.

The rescue from a certain planet, of several thousands of people, will always stick in my mind as being one of the finest pieces of television entertainment I have ever seen.

Me too! I'm not normally a Sci-Fi guy but friends were bigging-it-up loads so I watched the Mini-series and wasn't put-off, but wasn't enthralled either.

It stayed like that for a while - interesting, and throughly enjoyable but not hugely exciting like Dexter, 24, Prison Break etc. It did change though and I ended up throughly enjoying the show and watching multiple episodes at once - mainly because it's not just sci-fi, it's everything that it is to be Human...

I could never stop trying to guess what was happening, who was who, whats that character doing, where is the plot going, how did that happen... I loved how each season builds on the characters and there is little (if any) ability to jump in the middle. You end up really liking (or disliking) the characters and are really intrigued as to where they go.

It's not perfect though, there are plenty of episodes where little happens and there is a run of episodes which for me were very dark and heavy going, but, it's worth it!

Similarly, it's one of the few series I know which actually ends properly, all loose ends tied up and it's all timed perfectly (the 4 seasons were drafted in advance of filming anything I believe).

Plus, once you've seen it, you get a lot of references in other shows such as The Big Bang Theory wink

I agree, soe of the disuccions that go on between Baltar, Helo, Adama and others. The geunine twists that came from revelations and deaths, made it feel more real than many things based on Earth! I agree it was timed perfectly. Not sure if I heard talk that the cable company wanted to squeze out another series, but the producers were adamant.

Am I the only one here to think the final episode and resolution to the whole thing was utter bilge? Loved the series until the very end.

Just watched The Plan and that was gash too, though not for plot reasons, just because it was a bodged together rehash of previous episodes with a few deleted scenes spliced in that added nothing to the story.
