last time under my S2 I noticed cracking on the fuel pipes and that the filter looked like it might be early Edwardian....then I saw David Attenborough and a film crew back there talking about the last explored places on Earth of which this is obviously one......anyway I'm having engine faltering/stumbling issues and I'm wondering if I really ought to get stuck into that dark corner that is pump/filter/swirlpot/pipes/wires/rust/cobwebs and sort it out proper good. Anyone been there/done that? Could use tips on where to get the parts, what to do /not to do - i.e what to fiddle with and fettle and what to leave well alone...you get the idea...ta

No need to replace the pump if its not broke. My guess is 90% of pumps break because the filtration between the tanks and the pump is inadequate or non existent. The swirl pots have a filter inside but lots are knackered. Lots of wedges are not fitted with an external filter ie a filter after the swirl pot but before the pump. If you don't have one of these I suggest you fit one. On the subject of cracked/damaged fuel pipes, if you value your P & J then replace em. they're not that expensive.......a fire would be.

Hope that helps

If you are going to install a filter before the pump and your swirl pot isn't leaking then I'd leave it alone. Unless you want to replace it with an ali one. If you do remove the swirl pot and it rattles when you shake it, that tells you the filter inside it is probably defunkt, but this doesn't matter if you fit the filter in line.
