hi guys,

just waiting for piccy from the law to see how many white marks were showing. saw a thread about how to work out your actual speed from the piccy. but can't find it.

thing is a) our snooper never detected the van

b) there is no way we were doing the speed suggested, we had just come out of a turning, and got caught in trafic.

any one out there know how to work this. i seem to remember something about, every line showing is 5mph, can anyone confirm.

also do they use the trevello type mobile cameras as well as the gatso?? - never come across this before

all advice greatly appreciated.

I would suggest ignoring anything you've heard and running the investigation yourself.

The letter should include the time period that the camera was set to take to pictures over.

Using 2 the pictures, go to the site and physically measure the distance that the photos show that the vehicle moved. (be careful )

Following a recent case regarding parking, make sure the pictures are not doctored!!

Speed = distance/time (distance divided by time)

If it was a van there are unlikely to be the road markings required at a fixed site.

Isn't that an oxymoron?

I know what you mean though, unfortunately.

Measure the distance between the lines.

Using S=UT + 1/2 AT2

as A (acceleration) is considered to be zero

S = UT

Ask the court the interval between photographs (T)

From photograph measure distance (S) by counting the lines between the images.

Substiture in formula using distance in Metres, time (T)in seconds and get velocity in M/S. Then convert to MPH and tell them to sod off. (Most legal types are completely innumerate cos they are a bit fick actually if truth be known. good luck.
