PS3 - Dead internal battery?

Have posted here as am sure will get a better response.
I went away for 5 weeks in december into january, came home to find that my PS3 wouldnt play DVD's, Blu Rays and Games, nor would the RC work but a controller would work (kinda).
I did a system reset and all then worked fine.
I should add i turned it all off at the plug when i went away.
Is there an internal battery in the PS3 and did it therefore die meaning all settings needed resettting?
Anyone else had this issue?
