Best Route to Elgin from Edinburgh / Dundee
Discussion
Hi Guys
I have a wedding in Elgin tomorrow, and I've never been there before.
I'm going to be heading from Edinburgh, via Dundee.
What is the best route in terms of an easy drive? I love challenging roads but don't want to end up bring knackered when I arrive.
The sat nav suggests either going up the A9, or going via Brechin. I thought I could also go via Aberdeen.
Suggestions gratefully received!
Cheers

if your going by Dundee, turn off to the cairomount (Fettercairn road) head to Kincardine O' Neil then XC to Aberlour.
However not sure what the cairomount is like high up just now... ie ice/snow/grit.

A9 isn't much better tbh, but i agree the A96 is a dull drive.
car/weather dependant I would go Perth-Blairgowrie-Braemar-Cockbridge-Aberlour-Elgin... However the Braemar cockbridge road is notorious for being the first road to close when the white stuff is about. At this time of year i might err on the side of caution and go the A9. Only bugger would be snow/accident closure as there arent a lot of options for diversions before Aviemore.

te! If you can miss Dundee and go straight up the A9, so much the better...
