Hi Guys

I have a wedding in Elgin tomorrow, and I've never been there before.

I'm going to be heading from Edinburgh, via Dundee.

What is the best route in terms of an easy drive? I love challenging roads but don't want to end up bring knackered when I arrive.

The sat nav suggests either going up the A9, or going via Brechin. I thought I could also go via Aberdeen.

Suggestions gratefully received!

Cheers

Its a shame your going through Dundee because i would suggested heading up the A9 and turning off at Aviemore and going up through Aberlour to get to Elgin.

Thats a good road. Not to knackering.

hopefully this works

if your going by Dundee, turn off to the cairomount (Fettercairn road) head to Kincardine O' Neil then XC to Aberlour.

However not sure what the cairomount is like high up just now... ie ice/snow/grit.

Aberdeen road is really boring....plus watch out for the speed cameras...at least 3 that I can think of

I agree, Cairn o'mount road probably best for your needs.
Personally I'd turn around at Dundee and go over Glenshee and the Lecht (a bit weather dependant)...and then be asleep at the wedding. biggrin

Agree with many other posters. I drive up to Elgin from Edinburgh very regularly and the Aberdeen part of the road folowed by the A96 is a ste! If you can miss Dundee and go straight up the A9, so much the better...

A9 isn't much better tbh, but i agree the A96 is a dull drive.

car/weather dependant I would go Perth-Blairgowrie-Braemar-Cockbridge-Aberlour-Elgin... However the Braemar cockbridge road is notorious for being the first road to close when the white stuff is about. At this time of year i might err on the side of caution and go the A9. Only bugger would be snow/accident closure as there arent a lot of options for diversions before Aviemore.

A9 every time, cameras not so bothersome after Blair Atholl. stunning views, great roads, they even have signs telling van towers to pull over for faster traffic.
Come off at Aviemore for Forres then Elgin. The Aviemore/Forres road is a hoot too

Heard on the radio today that the Cairn o' Mount road is closed due to snow.
