Borderlands

I'm late to the party on this, but am REALLY getting into it (lvl 17 Siren). Sort of a cross between Everquest/Fallout 3 and Duke Nukem

Any other PHers playing? Have a bunch of mates who started a week or so before me, so approx lvl 20+, but always good to have a wider circle of contacts in my friends list for co-op questing.

I've got a £30 GAME voucher burning a hole in my pocket. I loved Fallout 3, so shall I go and get this Borderlands for a weekend play?

Although brilliant I have to say it is not really Fallout, it has RPG elements but no where near the same depth of storyline or missions.

Imo it's FPS first, RPG second. Still very good, and excellent fun with mates who now how to use the specials together as a team, but it isnt a fallout/oblivion style game.

And it's a voucher at the end of the day - buy it, play it, trade it if you dont like it!

That's partly the reason that I prefer it to Fallout 3. I simply don't have the time to invest in mega play sessions, so Borderlands gives more 'instant satisfaction'.

Still, early days yet (that said, I've already played it for longer than Fallout 3)

No, if you've played Fallout 3 then you will be massively dissapointed with Borderlands.

It has none of the charm, depth, excitment or exploration of Fallout 3 and become a chore.

The shooting is good but theres so much pointless walkinmg about and samey-samey missions.

I'd say either Oblivion for exploration or Serious Sam (1200MS points) for a shooter.

I have 135+ hours on Fallout 3 and also LOVE Bordelands. You would be dissapointed if you thought the games were of the same genre, but they aren't and each are enjoyable on their own merit

Borderlands comes into it's own with 4 player co-op and I found Fallout to be the chore, in fact, I am just finishing the last bit of DLC and it's like having teeth pulled

Why you no play Forza?

I don't know really mate, I do pick it up every now and then but after a couple of races I'm ready to play something else. It just doesn't seem to hold my attention like FM2 did. It doesn't help that i'm st and feel guilty for accidentally smashing into people on corners either.

Borderlands is dire solo, TBH - find a mate (or two, or preferably 3) who's got it and level your chars together. Its imporatant they stay around the same level or it gets pretty screwy.

Me and a mate are both level 61 now on Borderlands.We have the second set of arena levels to do (seems to be 100 rounds!)
and some stupidly hard boss and we will have finished all the DLC and main game.Was quite a laugh going back into the zombie level as 61 ranked characters (we decided to finish off getting all the brains), they offer up no challenge at all!
We also used a glitch to have a good look around without a time limit, in General Knoxx's armoury.Mind you, we didn't find anything a great deal better than what we had.

Absolutely superb game imho.They have said more DLC is on the way and I for one, can't wait.

That glitch in Knoxx's armoury is rediculous, I found it by accident after I fell through the floor. Do a few runs and you might find the odd decent thing, me and a mate found one of the ultra-rare 'pearlescent' weapons.

Crawmerax - the ultra hard boss - is stupidly, stupidly hard. Make sure you have a *good* shock, fire and corrosive weapon, you'll need one of each. He drops the best stuff though, so its worth it.

Oh, and Moxxi's DLC is utter rubbish. Boring, repetative arena's that just endlessly loop the same rounds and bosses about 50 times. Not sure what they were thinking when they churned that out. If anyone's thinking about it, DON'T. Knoxx and Dr Ned are good though.

Me and a mate have hit 61, and we're grabbing two other mates to do some 4player action and starting from the beginning. Should be a hoot!

Been looking for a pearlescent for ages

4 of us did each of our allocated armoury runs, killed Crawermax about 10 times and still haven't got one

Apparently the more people in the group, the better the quality of the drops. So ideally, 4 of you want to be dropping him.

Also, the chances for Pearlescent are "less than" 1 in ever 66 Orange. But that sounds like bullcrap - I've seen hundreds of oranges from Craw (he usually drops about 4-6 Orange items per kill) and I've not come across one Pearlescent from him, only from Knoxx.
