Should I sell the collection?
Discussion
Over the the past few years I have built up a collection of 1:43 model cars, mostly minichamps, but some norev, autoart and kyosho too. I have all the original boxes for every single one and all of them have literally come straight out of the box and put directly into a display cabinet. And thats the issue, it's been about 3 years since i've added one to the collection and to be honest I rarely even look at them , but when I do I think they are quite nice to have.
I've decided I'm going to put them all back in their boxes and then either put them away somewhere and maybe in a few years time start collecting again OR sell them.
However, since I have spent what I think is quite a considerable sum on the lot, I will only sell them if I feel I can get a decent amount of money for them. I have 50 of them and would like to think I would get an average of £20 for each one, bearing almost everyone of them is spotless (a few have lost the sticker badges on the wheels) and the majority are limited editions which you can no longer get, the rarest is one of 1008. I was also sad enough at the time to document where and how much I paid for each one .
Am I unreasonable in what I think I can get for them, and do you think I would be wrong to sell them. The money would go someway to a real car, or just lots of photography kit .

I'd have thought the obvious thing to do would be to look on 'completed listings' on EBay to get an idea of what people will pay.I've decided I'm going to put them all back in their boxes and then either put them away somewhere and maybe in a few years time start collecting again OR sell them.

I have had a look, and a lot of the models I have are simply not available on ebay, or some seem to be very expensive (£40-50) . So I thought I'd ask here.My advice would be not to sell them yet. If they are relatively new (say 5-10 years) you may struggle to get your money back so be patient, the older they are, the more desirable they will be. I have a collection of over 600, some of which even now are worth between £50 and £100 (originally cost £20 in early to mid 90's) but regardless of how broke I get, am determined not to sell them until I retire (I'll be even more broke then).
Still the choice is yours, as someone said, keep checking eBay and you might get some idea of what to ask. Word of warning; if you're selling a collection, they'll probably fly out at first - half of them will go immediately but the rest will take a while then at the end you'll be left with a few that will never sell no matter how hard you try. Also, make sure you select a few favourites to keep because if you let them all go, you're bound to regret it!
