I've just perusing the Verdi Ferrari servicing costs for Lambos and noticed that they seem to be significantly more expensive to service than a Ferrari. Is this a general theme? i.e. a Gallardo costs more to service (and buy parts for) than say an equivaent F430, even at a main dealer?

If this is the case, will that adversely affect Lambo residual values compared to Ferrari values in 5-10yrs time when they hit say the £30-£40k price range (like current F355s and 456s) and become affordable to many more people?

Personally, I think it will: Because I am not super rich, the cost of maintaining an F355 (plus potential costs if something goes badly wrong) does scare me a bit and is at the limit of what I'm happy with taking on. If someone increased that number by 50-100%, I personally think I'd have to consider something else.

Thoughts?

I dont think it matters. In either case if you can't afford to run one don't buy in the first place. Most owners go into it with their eyes open. The topic on the 456 at £20k is a prime example.

Anyone like to hazard a guess as to where values would be in, say five years for diablos and murcis? You can buy a good diablo or a murci for 80k right now. I have never really looked at a murci, but it would perhaps be silly not to if they cost the same right now.

If Diablos follow the trend set by the Miura and Countach, sought after models should see an increase in price in years to come. An early LP400 Countach fetches really good money now, and the later QV models are also fetching good prices.

Not sure the Murci or Gallardo will follow the same trend as a lot more of them were produced/are stil being produced, making them more 'common', if ever such a description can be used in relation to a Lambo.

But that's the point, at £35k, I am able to afford to buy an F355 and maintain it given "normal" running costs. Now, fast forward 8 years time to someone else in my exact financial situation looking at say a Murcie for £35k. If the average maintenance costs were double that of the F355 in adjusted money (e.g. minor service at £1600+VAT, major with belts at £3k+VAT, general parts cost was twice as much), if I was that person, I wouldn't feel comfortable running it and wouldn't buy one unless they cost substantially less and I could put some of the £35k (that I'm wouldn't be spending to buy the car) into a servicing fund instead.

Thus, at £35k, there would be far less demand, thus the rice would drop.

Me too. Really don't understad the point of this topic. Same can be said about most classics. Some are cheap to buy - most are expensive to maintain properly and run.

I guess all I'm trying to ask is, on the assumption that modern Lambo maintenance appears to be rather more expensive than modern equivalent Fezza maintenance, do people think their residual values will be lower than the Ferrari's due to these increased maintenance costs further down the line? My logic says yes, but I was wondering if other people thought differently e.g. a Lambo is more special than a Ferrari or something like that

I can appreciate your concern at running costs but having owned two Murci's now I really don't find their running costs scary - considering a few years back my New Gen Range Rover cost me £1500 for a major service! I also owned a 911 (993) which was more expensive to service than the 911(996) I had but they are ascending in value now.Its more about how over time the car earns its right to become a classic IMHO
