Phil down under C4 Fridays 20.00

Relocation: Phil Down Under Friday 22 January

If Britain's bleak midwinter makes you yearn for a beach-and-barbie lifestyle, this sumptuous piece of property porn should do the trick. But if you're seriously thinking of moving to Australia, it may be less helpful. Phil Spencer leaves Kirstie Allsopp back in Blighty and heads first to Sydney to check out the Australian property market, in order to help various Brits find a new home. First up is an Essex family moving to Perth. Looking past Phil's idiosyncratic Oz-speak ("It's an emu's neck from the beach" and "I'm going to grab it by the billabongs!"), this is essentially an advertorial for the Australian Department of Immigration. Shot follows shot of fabulous sandy beaches, happy tanned faces and houses big enough to swing a kangaroo in. "You'd be mad not to live here" is the subliminal message. Any disadvantages in changing hemispheres are swiftly passed over (healthcare's not free to all in Australia, the crime rate and cost of living are about the same as in the UK, and sometimes it does rain). But as a bit of sun-drenched escapism, this is ripper.
