Hello

Perhaps someone can offer advice on where to go for Valentines dinner? It's on a Sunday this year, are restaurants in the UK likely to be open then?

I'd rather not travel into London and cannot seem to find many places around Cambridge. So far I have found Midsummer House, The Cricketers in Clavering and Restaurant 22. Are there any other recommendations?

Thank you!

Not sure if this is the kind of thing you are after but this place is definitely open The Red Lion @ Brinkley.
Its not been open long since being taken over before Christmas but I can recommend the food [shameless plug] as my wife is the chef! [/shameless plug] its nothing fancy just good home made food in a cosy old pub.

Ive always enjoyed 'By Appointment' restaurant in Norwich if thats convenient for you.

Small and fairly intimate, run by a couple of gay guys (or at least it used to be) and there are rooms to stay there and have breakfast etc as well.

Not scary prices, but a little more than your average everyday restaurant.

If you want extra special then Midsummer House is fantastic. Restaurant 22 is quaint but has superb food at good value.

To that list you can add:

The Pheasant at Keyston http://www.thepheasant-keyston.co.uk/home.php (runner up in Ramsey's F-word)
Alimentum http://www.restaurantalimentum.co.uk/ (chef was from Midsummer House I think)
Graffiti at Hotel Felix http://www.hotelfelix.co.uk/fmi/restaurant/index.h... (fab desserts)
The Cock Hemingford Grey http://www.cambscuisine.com/TheCock/# (Pub Restaurant of the year 2010)

Have fun!

Then you need look no further! The vension that I had there remains the best main course I've ever been served anywhere. It's not cheap but the food and the service are absolutely first rate. I live in Southampton so don't get the opportunity to go there very often but we only need to be within a 50 mile radius of Cambridge to take a detour for lunch or dinner!
