Looking at potentially buying out that way... still need to get into London, and housing looks reasonably priced... any thoughts, no-no's or otherwise?

Much better than it was. Quite a few people I've spoken to consider it to be the place to buy as it's on the up.

Mind you, they all own property there...

Care to share? smile

Currently over in Effingham Junction, but there's some perculiar types round here silly and property is overpriced even relative to the market, plus there's nothing here. Figure further out = more for your money.

Apparently it's had a lot of money ear marked for re-development, mind you this was pre-recession. It's very well located, Guildford, M3 etc, it's not as rough as it was, in fact it's pretty safe. The recent influx of Nepalese has been really good for the place, they're really nice people, generally it's the only place around here where you see any real variety of people. There are some good greasy spoon cafe's (Frankie's, The Astelet). It's close to some good driving roads, Aldershot to Church Crookham, to Odiham, Black Water Valley Relief Road to Farnham. Farnham to Goldalming. Amazing walking area (big woods right next to Tesco and goes all the way to the Fleet border), it's also the Army's fast off road course so if you have a trials bike...Marks & Sparks discount shop. Very, very good Army sports centre with an olympic sized pool and never busy squash courts, open to the public, tartan race track and athletic club next to a huge park. I may even consider moving back...

I like it - re-development is going ahead according to councils mag, good links as said above, sure there are 'better' places around but most important thing of all I could afford a house with a garage and the neighbors don't complain about the noise!

If your thinking about moving that way consider Farnborough. We moved here 6 months ago from Woking. No regrets so far.

Farnborough is being done up at the moment as it needed it.

I'd not heard Alderste was being revamped, it is in need to be fair. But i've not been there in a while.

Best seen at the moment in the rear view mirror.

I will stay in Fleet for the time being, you can get 3-4 bed semi's in Aldershot for £250k but I just don't think I could bring myself to move there.

Just don't like the place. Born there, lived there, missus works there. Would prefer other local places, that's all.

Of all the towns in the near vicinity it is defiantly the worst - Fleet, Church Crookham, Fanrborough, Farnham, Ash are all much nicer places to live. However as other people have said it was supposedly earmarked for development - not that I've noticed much improvement in the last 5 years....

REALLY? I thought Ash was the sphincter of Aldershots buttocks

Farnborough is much nicer. Avoid Aldershot and certain parts of Ash, I've worked Ash for a few years and wouldn't move there, too many unpaid members of the caravan club, if you catch my drift wink

Horrid place (it was), probably still is. Farnborough is better, but not by much.

Depends what you're used to, but I wouldn't fancy it.

But you can't knock its prices and links.
