Bedford noise limits
Discussion
I've booked a trackday there for the 22nd Feb, the noise limit is supposed to be 100Db but it doesn't specify if that's static or drive by.
A friend of mine went there last year in his caterfeild and was turned away after setting off one of the trackside Db meters, he wasn't given a second chance to try and quieten the car down. I don't want to be turned away after driving 120 miles there.
Car is a E36 M3 with a standard backbox and a decat - any guesses how loud that would be on a Db meter?

I take my E36 down there with a decanted Scorpion system and end up around 94db. Also I thought it was 105db at Bedford.
Just looked at the day I am doing at Bedford on Feb 27th and the limit is 101db.
Great, thanks for that. I've just got hold of a Scorpion back box but didn't want to fit it untill after this trackday just in case.Just looked at the day I am doing at Bedford on Feb 27th and the limit is 101db.

When they noise-test you, make sure the engine is warm, that the clutch is dipped, and that you bring the revs up slowly - don't let them spike.A friend of mine went there last year in his caterfeild and was turned away after setting off one of the trackside Db meters, he wasn't given a second chance to try and quieten the car down. If you're close to the limit on the static test, on your sighting laps take note of the positions of the microphones. There are 4 of them. Going past at least 2 of them, you can back off the throttle without compromising your driving enjoyment in the least.
A guy in a TVR Sagaris passed the noise test (which was 98dB I believe on that occasion) without issue last time I was there and the Caterham went through fine. I think they'll let you turn up in advance and test it if it's a concern. I went to a track evening at Brands Hatch last year where at least half a dozen people failed - most of them managed to pass later on by hook or by crook (some using additional bolt-on silencers), but it must have put a real crimp on the day of those who didn't.
I went for the first time yesterday and thought the track was great with a very friendly atmosphere and some very good driving!
If they are on here, thanks to the chaps in the GTR and the AMV8 convertible, who very kindly let us play in there cars when our car broke. Looking forward to the next one.

I was there yesterday to. Black 7GT3.2. We scraped through the static 101dB and was called in 3 times for 'nearly' tripping the drive past.If they are on here, thanks to the chaps in the GTR and the AMV8 convertible, who very kindly let us play in there cars when our car broke. That GTR was insane!! Especially earlier on in the wet!
i was in the gtr for a bit as a passenger and i was amazed at how much you could get away with. Was impressed with your driving sir, as it was clear that the conditions suited the gtr more. The gt3 was slightly quicker in a straight line, but the gtr is amazing in the bends! I just wish that my integra's engine hadn't let go...

I'll have to agree with the last 2 posts about the GTR, a real giant killer when you compare prices of other more expensive Supercars.
I was there with a couple of novices who were driving my stripped out E36 325. Apologies for the afternoon red flag when my car ended up in the grass at the second corner! It wasn't me, I was enjoying a cup of tea at the time!!

Loved your Black GT3! It looks so aggressive!
Did you manage to have a play with the GT3 RS on track?
The thing with the GTR is that you don't have to be a great driver to make it go quick! It is VERY forgiving! Driven a friends on the road and I think it is the quickest thing point to point on country roads! You can push the thing as hard as you like and it just say's "is that it?".
To be fair to the chap (Marcel i think) who was driving it, he was just out to have fun and hoon the nuts off it....believe me it could have gone A LOT quicker through the bends!

Thank you very much! Twas it's first outting and the two things happened that you don't really need when exploring the limits. Wet track and a GTR in your mirrors!LuckyP said:

Na, didn't see it out until much later on. I'd already decided to 'quit whilst ahead' by then.
