What a waste of time, how do they know he was six or eight? he may have been a small ten?

Well he was carrying a fishing net, maybe he was going fishing early in the morning? I know i was out of the house early when i was young but never sparked a 'probe' when walking with my tackle to the river bank...

Maybe some people should worry about their driving than of a young lad going for an early catch...

Perhaps they just miss-heard and thought the reporter said there was someone walking around in Bridgend with their tackle out and went a bit paedohysterical as they all tend to these days.

That is down the bottom from where I live, there are several footpaths that disappear into the fields either side. There is a river, it is a short walk to the dunes and the rest of the river. Bet dad was out of view down one of the paths.

Are you sure he wasn't caught in a fishing net? IE Paedophiles going child-fishing?

I am glad that they are trying to locate the boy. 6-8 years old is no age to be out at that time if alone. I would try to locate the boy just to give his chavy parents a slap across there Burberry capped heads.
Anyone with young children will know were i am coming from........well thats the theory. It should be easy to tell who has children from those who dont from the responses.

Why?, when I was his age I would get up at 4.30 and go fishing. Always seemed the best time to catch.

Bet ya a tenner you aint got young children have you. When you do have a 6 year old come back and re-read what you wrote.
Besides if it needs explaining to you, then you will never understand.
Mind you if you are saying that at 6-8 years old you were walking the streets at 4.30!! yikes in the morning. God help any children you may have if you still think the way you do.
Its going to be interesting to hear how many people on here would allow there 6 year olds out in the early hours of the morning by themselves. I for one have a 6 year old daughter, and there is no way in hell...ever.

Who is to say the child was actually that age? I know a 30 year old that you could pass for less than 21. Looks is nothing. And what is wrong with a young lad going fishing early in the morning? i did... and many others probably did too...

The article said 5:30, which is morning. The boy was alleged to have been between 6 and 8 although, as already stated, that could really be any age between say 5 and 10. Before you come back and ask, no I don't have children, but in my opinion having children doesn't always make one the best parent (toxic upbringing torture case?).

We can only post on the information that we have from the top link. For get the assumption that the kid may have been 10 (which is still to young to be out at 5.30am IMO), or a dwarf and all that nonsense. The link tells us that the kid was between 6-8, so lets stay with that assumption.
There have been responses on this thread that have just amazed me. So the people who have said that they used to go out as children fishing at 5.30am. Please confirm to me that you were indeed between the age of 6-8 years old.
By the way i am still waiting for a parent to post up that they would let there young child go wondering of at 5.30 in the morning fishing in a canal.
And its not a case of just because you have children makes you a good parent. Having children changes ones perception of life.
I cant believe that i am the only one who has posted so far that would not let this happen.....unbelievable.

Er i think that was quite clear to anyone reading the link. So what was the reason for emphasizing the word "morning"???

Ah, the old "having children makes me special" brigade. STFU and go be paranoid about your own kids.

Wow, that was most unlike me :P

I was emphasising that the time was 5:30 which I regard as morning being a bit of an early riser myself whereas 4:30 I tend to regard as very early morning/late night (especially like last week when some pillock set off the fire alarm in my flats frown but I digress..).

ETA As a matter of interest, what time of day/age do you consider it appropriate to let your children out on their own?
