Hi Mate,
Head for the south of GOA, near Palolem beach there is an intercontinental
hotel close by which has more than a touch of colonial Raj grandness !
I've been there and it's very nice. ( Private beach, golf course Etc)
Palolem is also quiet but not overly so, nice walk down the main street.
on the main approach to the beach there is an Italian restaurant which
is run by two Italian hippies from the 60's. The food is to die for
(Tuna Pizza - Best in the world)
Loads of good rustic type eating on the beach places and not a trendy
bar in sight. Highly, Highly recommend it.
At the far end of the beach (turn right) there is a place called
Cozy Nook which is a grass roots beach hut accommodation place
worth a night for £5 !
Enjoy.
Tom.

As mentioned, go for South Goa its a beautiful place. The Leela is a really nice hotel if you're feeling flush, although there are plenty of others down south to go for. Theres so much to see and the food in Goa is simply awesome, you need to get right in amonst it (hire a Royal Enfield if your feeling brave)to get the best from Goa. Get there now tho before the Russians take over!!

I stayed here in Nov 2008 - gorgeous place.

I think any of the reputable hotels will do you just fine, but I'd suggest hiring a local tour guide and a driver for at least one day so that you can experience some off-the-beaten-track places.

I've stayed at 'Cidade De Goa'; it was a while ago but the hotel and service were second to none.....rooms cleaned daily, hotel had its own put-put drivers who would take you anywhere you wanted to go all day for some loose change (in fact I remember asking one to take us into Panjim, he dropt us off at the fish market, picked us up later, then took us to a local cafe where he went, then we asked him to take us to see some churches - he spent the rest of the afternoon trying to kill us on the roads but we saw hundreds of pretty little churches dotted around the countryside - they can't do enough for you)
Anyway, hotel also had superb eateries.....check it out on trip-advisor.

Don't know about Goa, but it seems the Russians have already taken over the Leela. Visited recently, and 80%+ of the guests were Russians, most men adorning speedos many sizes too small.https://www.theleela.com/hotel-goa.html
