Bit of a step down, but a handy shoe in for 2011 if Schumi only does a year.

what a non job. Schumi doesn't generally farm out the testing, so much so that even Rosberry's gonna have trouble getting in the car, then there's the testing ban, so.... apart from demo runs he ain't getting his 'arris anywhere near that car.

Also consider, if Schumacher ends up with no podiums in the first 5 or 6 races, is he even going to finish the season?

I would hazard a guess that Heidfeld has weighed up the pros and cons of a guaranteed race seat in a new team and the possibility of what you allude to and has decided to put his eggs in Mercedes' basket.

Time will tell whether he was wise or not.

What a relative waste of talent & momentum from his F1 career.
Thats him out of F1 (racing) then..

Exactly my thoughts, he isnt amazing but he certainly deserves a race seat over quite a few drivers out there. hope he manages to get into a race car this season and shows what he can do.

Unless pre-season testing shows that Schumi's neck still isn't up to the task...

Old man Schummi tries too hard in a new car for him (and because of the pressure), and it ends up in tears for him. Heidfeld is then in the right place. DC was a beneficiary of what happened in 1994, but I appreciate the other factors in that situation.

If Schummi wins the WDC he will then want to retire having proved his point, Heidfeld is in the right place the car having been developed by Schummi.

As Anthony Davidson was the test driver when it was Brawn, does this put him completely out of a drive for 2010? I am so amazed that man hasn't got a full race seat.

Also a bit shocked no-one has picked up Heidfeld on a full time drive, i know he's also been an "also ran", but of them all he is by far the best, consistent, and never crashes, always scores a point, surely thats the perfect 2nd driver for a good team, and the perfect 1st driver for a new team?

Except as has been noted elsewhere, if he wins, that makes 8 WDCs.....and we all now know for sure, that MS hates even numbers... hehe

Last Paragraph from James Allen's website...

"The team is backed by Petronas, the Malaysian oil company in a deal worth €30 million per season. There has not been any mention yet of Nick Heidfeld as test and reserve driver, despite reports over the weekend that he had agreed a deal."

I would guess he will finish the season, regardless of points. I guess we wait for the answer...

Anyone betting?

He's off to DTM this year is he not? I heard he was getting an Audi drive.
