S3 Fuel Pump

Hi all, been following the site since I bought my S3 last Spring and now find myself in need of help.
Car stopped running one evening, all electrics work, including lights, sparks, starter etc. After being recovered home on the back of a truck traced the problem to the fuel pump not working (I think). Replaced the wires and connectors to the pump as heavily corroded and still no movement from the pump. There is a reading of 0 volts to 12 volts then back to 0 volts on a volt meter when ignition switched on. Removed pump and wired directly to 12 volts and just a thunk and then nothing, feels as if it's jamming. Figure pump has had it. I have been to our local motor factors for a replacement (2.9 Sierra?) but we ended up with two probables and a possible. The part numbers I have are Lucas FBD 702 and Bosch 580254911 have not identified a definite replacement and I don't want to fit an incorrect pump. Does anyone know the correct part number, a supplier who does, or where I can purchase one

I got one at a decent price from him a while ago when I thought mine was packing in.Having said that I have not tried it as mine was OK so now I have a spare!

scouting around on eBay I one identical in appearance to the one from S3. Item 350305011970 for a Ford Scorpio, I thought they used Sierra parts. Don't know if it will work though, is there any great difference between them. Can any one offer advice one way or another?

And to add to the confusion looking for fuel a filter I have so far found four to fit 2.8 and 2.9 engines, does it make a difference which one?

pretty certain i fitted a Bosch to my 2.9 engine

i thought the lucas part isn't available anymore (but i may be wrong)

I have spoken to a man who knows and he is sure all the V6 pumps will do the job so long as they are external and not internal tank units. Same goes for the filters.

The Bosch fuel pump (fitted to my car) is p/n 580254911 (as fitted to various Granada/Scorpios & some Mercedes).

Hi

Mine failed and I took the old one into a Bosch dealer and it was a Bosch unit. Apparently very common for loads of cars. Cost just over £100 and I would like to meet the P*### who decided to locate it in the wheel arch. However anywhere more sensible and it wouldnt be a TVR!
BTW in case you have not found them the cables run down the passenger door pillar and there was enough spare on mine to re-make the ends off but expect glass fibre splinters in that crevice of torture.
Suggest you also look at the suction pipe from the tank as these are steel rienforced and can rot - mine broke in half during the job.

On the V8S its in a little cavity under the boot - I reckon if you're handy with the fibreglass you could make the same arrangement, if you want more detail I'll attempt some pics.
