last year I had one pinched off the ninja, now I don't bother displaying it. If I get stopped what's the likely outcome? (I carry it in my wallet)

cheers all.

Can't you photocopy it, put the copy in the holder with a sign saying "copy because of recent thefts", and carry the real one with you?

Spoke to BiB when mine was stolen last year.

You don't have to display it on your bike, so long as you keep it in your pocket or wallet and can show it if stopped.

They know how vulnerable bikers are to this and you really should not have a problem!

Why dont we all have our tax discs 'stolen'? Report it to the necessary authority and then you can speed and park wherever you want cos you just blame it on the thief.

I can't believe I just wrote that - how naughty!

Cos they expect you to get a replacement for (IIRC) £8.00.

Any BiB who stops a biker, and moans at him for keeping a tax disc in his wallet, needs a kick up the arse.

It would probably work for any soft top car, as well as a bike.

Surely any reasonable copper would understand your reason for not displaying it and it won't be a problem soon anyway if the DVLA are going to rely on their computers rather than BiB to spot cars without tax!

Interesting post.

Firstly Excise licence is a Revenue matter and at the end of the day all that DVLA is interested in is that the vehicle involved is taxed. Any possible no tax cases reported to DVLA (CLE 2/6) because non displayed hardly likely to be proceeded with.

Whilst S33 VE &Reg Act 94 creates a specific offence of faling to display (&200 fine)if all other matters are OK then I very much doubt Plod would go for his pencil.

Dealt with thousands of Excise offences in the past and though had to include the non display on the file there was never anybody taken to Court for failing to display. As a single simple offence I have never seen/read/heard one at Court. Serving BiB may put me to right.
