Hello,

looking at getting a Range Rover 4.4V8 but really want to know about the mileage.
With a FSH what mileage would one of these do before major mechs start going wrong and what are the main things
to look out for when purchasing one.

Front diff by about 30000 miles. LR will upgrade for free.
Gearbox over 100000 miles unless you take sensible precautions. LR say they're sealed for life. They shouldn't.

Mine's 108,000 and running 100%. It seems that any problems they have, have occured and been fixed by the time they get on in miles.

Mine is at 114,000. (02 plate 4.4 V8)

Had the front diff done already free on the recall.

Had the gearbox oil and filter done at 90k miles as my friend from ZF assured me that 'sealed for life' translates to 'sealed for warranty'.

Head gaskets, radiator, water pump and various associated bits done at 70k when stone went through rad and blew cooling system - just under £4k claimed on insurance.

Other than that, have had a new alternator (not cheap, water cooled) and a radiator top hose (blew off, plastic junction failure).

Currently have small leak on rear diff which will get sorted at next service and a slight weep from one of the rocker covers (small smell of oil burning for couple of minutes if I have parked it facing uphill). Get through about 1ltr of oil every 1,500-2,000 miles.

Mine has been used on and off-road 'enthusiatically' and I love it - plan to run it as long as possible while saving up for a supercharged in a few years.
