Griffith - engine noise

Can anyone help?

I've recently had a J-Reg 4.3 Griff and it is making a kind of loud clicking noise. I have been told (by a friend) that it sounds like cam-shaft / tap it / pinking (?).

I have checked the oil level - OK
I have run on Super Unleased instead of supermarket stuff - (pinking once again?)

The more accelerator I use, the louder the click - although it doesn't happen when going a constant speed or when at standstill.

I honestly don't remember it doing it before - but I can't be sure. Someone pointed out the noise to me and now I can't stop hearing it if you know what I mean.

first place to check is the exaust manifold gaskets,there well known for making the engine sound tappety when they fail.

Agree with mongoose on that - as well as the gaskets deteriorating over time (the originals are cork jobbies that won't stand up to the conditions for ever) the manifold can often develop some holes that will need a bit of TLC......

You will no doubt find someone who can point you in the right direction though.

Welcome to the Griff owners club. I had a few niggles with mine when I first had it, but most are now sorted and still have the grin firmly fixed and not just whilst driving!

No doubt will meet sometime at a PH event make sure you introduce yourself.

I'd go with the advice above... gaskets or crack/hole in manifolds.

Surely they put the PAS in the front?

The front is an end, as is the back (you smart arse! )

Had exactly that same sort of noise
and it was my exhaust manifold gasket.
unfortunately I now have the same noise
back but this time it's a crack in the
manifold its self

Front is surely the beginning, the rear is the end?

It may be just a noisy injector, but the only way to get real piece of mind is to take her to a garage, TVR specialist preferred. Without meaning to be alarmist, some of these noises can be expensive if left too long.

Mine made a very similar noise. It turned out to be a stone jammed inside the grooves of the drive belt. If yours is a serpentine it might be worth having a check of this.
