considering 6 Series convertible but which engine ?
Discussion
Hi tvron,
If it helps, I have just bought a 650i sport, and its a fantastic engine, turbine smooth and quick from any revs. Im afraid I dont have any experience of the 3.0.
Personally I would never go for a diesel convertible, the two somehow just dont work for me, I have nothing against diesels ( 1 run two of them as well as the 6 series) but I cant get my head around hearing a diesel engine at full pelt with the hood down being a major off putting experience. Go for a straight 6 or V8 howl any day... or buy a coupe....

What is fuel consumption like on 650 ?
If you have to ask...
That was my old mans response, he sold his last year, wasn't a convertible though. It was a 650i Sport Edition and reckons 25 on a run if you're lucky and 10-15 around town, again not being too heavy on the loud pedal.
His was an auto, not sure if they all are?
I only asked to see if the 650 compared with my 4.2 XKR but obviously not.
I do about 50% of my miles on the continent so the attraction of cheaper diesel combined with better mileage was my reason for considering diesel. The 630 (272 BHP) appears on paper to be only 5miles per gallon less but my 525i only averages about 27 with a best of 32.
I do agree that the idea of a diesel convertible does not sit easily.
Will have to try one

Ahh, mpg....
On a motorway at steady 80leptons, about 25-28 mpg
day to day average on mine is 19.6mpg after the last 560 miles (about 14 tanks..... :-))
I only do about 6-8k a year in the 650i as I run a diesel landrover in the winter months, can't stand the thought of all that crap flung up and grit chipping the paintwork, plus the BMW Is rubbish in the cold wet winters!
Hope this helps.

I tried a diesel and besides the dull sound of the engine, I could actually smell the diesel fumes when the roof was down. If you're buying a cab, don't get a diesel.

Around town, on short trips, it's about 17mpg. On a long, sedate run I've managed low 30's, so not too bad. My V8 seems to run better on super unleaded, which also adds to the fuel bills.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
