Hi all, need a new mobile. Looking at three possibilities, a Blackberry, an iPhone or a Nokia N97. For business use text and voice. About £35-40 per month.
iphone & n97 have software issues.Blackberry is the way forward.
Im waiting for an N900 to arrive (literally!)
Had a BB for 20 months and while its been good, theres too many things that irritate me to get another one.
For instance (and mine is not the only one) it would not charge from anything other than a wall socket or mini-usb on a PC. Along with no video, sticking track ball, occasional locking needing the battery out and various incidences of where calls are dropped or no sound.
Ive bought the Nokia blind (though did see one in CW yesterday) and have read varying reviews.
More of a computer with a phone in it, and seems to be a bit marmite. Hopefully I will like it!
Still some say the N97 is the flagship and true Ive not used any recent BB's but until you actually use the things for a while and find their strengths and weaknesses someone elses option is fairly irrelevant...

Just for clarification Blackberry does video.Had a BB for 20 months and while its been good, theres too many things that irritate me to get another one.

It also charges from USB unless you've either disabled it through the security policy, your device is malfunctioning or most commonly you've not installed the USB drivers (Only required if charging from laptop/PC, it will charge from any USB).
The trackball is not being used in any of the new devices as it is a weak point. It has been replaced by a trackpad.
The recent (massive) update to the Firmware for the N97 (to match the Mini) has sorted alot of the issues, if it's just for text and voice I would suggest that the Mini might be the better call though (no pun intended) - it's that bit smaller (obviously) and I find it easier in the hand when writing a big text/e-mail. Also without wanting to get to technical they have re-arranged the memory on the phone in such a way that it really helps with performance.
If you are wanting it purely for text and voice an iPhone really isn't what you want, I've used a few and it's really not their strong point. A BB such as the Curve would certainly fit the bill for that though.

Just out of interest what would be best for internet? I have a Nokia N95 8GB and must admit that I've been pretty happy with it overall. I don't think that I'd get on that well with touch screens though, I like tactile buttons!
Well, the best one is either the iPhone or (from what I've read, not having handled one) the Nokia N900.KaraK said:
for general web browsing (if you can live without flash) the iPhone wins hands down at the moment (although I haven't had a play with an N900) but the browsing experience on the N97/mini is certainly useable and lightyears ahead of the N95's (I came from an N95-1)
Personally I would put the Android phones on par with the iPhone as well. IIRC they are based on the same browser tech.Tycho said:

Not much good for a mobile not charging from a car!
Video isnt on my BB, its too old, plus camera is only 2mp.
Friend of mine has also dropped BB, currently has the HTC and soon to swap for a Google phone.
He thinks Rim have missed the boat as other manufacturers have moved in on their ground and are now making a better product with more features.
Got the N900 yesterday and played about a bit. Very easy to use, just having to get used to a different
system other than BB. Sure its expensive but initial impression pretty damn good. Touch screen is pretty good and keyboard has a nice positive feel. Now need to figured out some of the other functions

Blackberry are doing their best for the past 10 years, you should try out the new models. In fact over the last quarter the old Blackberry curve outsold the Iphone and that's just one of the many devices in the range.
Good luck with the N900 as the reviews I'm getting it are a bit hit and miss (I work in the mobile industry).
I'm due to get one soon and also a Palm Pre that's also getting some good and some bad reviews from those in the know.
Blackberry bold, I have one and its fantasic. Never used a n97 but i find the iphone a pain in the arse for typing on, and if you did get one make sure you have insurance on it as the screens break all the time; One of my friends is on her 8th iphone. The only + point i would give to the iphone is it is slightly better for media applications due to the big screen.

And to throw a rank outsider into this bit of the discussion - Flash is coming to the Palm Pre very very soon.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
