I was always been a big cocktail fan but drifted over to excessive red wine consumption in recent years.

Christmas gave cause for the old shaker to be re visited and I have since been demolishing Margaritas at an unhealthy pace yum

Having now re found my joy of too many units in one glass I feel the need to experiment. Whilst I appreciate that the inter web will be full of suggestions it will never quantify the sheer brilliance of a drink or the likelihood of being able to mix it successfully when half cut!

So, I have the following in the drink cupboard;

Vodka
Gin
Spiced Rum
Bacardi
Midori
Baileys
Tequila
Malibu
Triple Sec
Sugar syrup
Angostura bitters
Blue Curacao
Amaretto
Southern comfort
Whiskies (various)
Limocello (why???)
Jack Daniels

Mixers etc are not a problem but I'd prefer to use up some of the booze above.

My liver eagerly awaits your suggestions!

since i manage a cocktail spirit, my recommendations are somewhat biased wink

tasty, though - these are great drinks.

Monkey Manhattan:

50ml whisky (preferably Monkey Shoulder)
25ml sweet vermouth (martini rosso)
10ml triple sec
2 dashes agnosutra

Just combine in a shaker and stir until super-chilled (a minute or so), then strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a cocktail cherry.

Show me the Monkey:

50ml whisky (preferably Monkey Shoulder)
25ml southern comfort or drambuie
four or five mint leaves
100ml apple juice

mix, shake, and strain into a tall glass full of ice.

Monkey Mule:

50ml whisky (preferably Monkey Shoulder)
Juice of 1 lime
20ml sugar syrup
dash of bitters (e.g. angostura)
1 can of ginger beer

shake all but the ginger beer, and strain into a tall ice filled glass. top up with the ginger beer (usually about half to 3/4 of a can). garnish with a lime wedge.

For a summer feeling, Pina Colada. Probably the only cocktail that will help you use up the Malibu!

2 parts Malibu
2 parts pineapple juice
1 part cream
crushed ice

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass/shaker, then strain into a highball glass. Garnish with pineapple slice/umbrellas/maraschino cherry, depending on how 1980s you feel!

I've been enjoying Monkey Shoulder neat recently after being bought a bottle. I'll have to try some of these cocktails - I didn't know it was meant for mixing.

Well, we wanted to make a malt you could mix, and dispell the whole "only bourbons make cocktails" myth. However, it had to be a good enough whisky to enjoy straight, too - too many people get used to drinking "xxxxx whiskey/whisky and coke", then try it neat and dont enjoy it!

We're fans here too after visiting the Monkey House (great idea BTW) at the Big Chill Festival last year - will you be attending again this year?

Oh and did you attend the Burns Night last night? I got the email about it but alas a bit far for a 'school' night.

the Monkey Shoulder Tree House will be back this year, but i cannot say where (yet) as we are just starting to talk to organisers. The Monkey Burns night went very well - the Chilli Pipers were rock and rool. shame you could not make it!

Glad you like the Show Me the Monkey - it definitely tastes best with Monkey Shoulder in it though wink

Mojito. Probably the best cocktail there is. Yum!

Crushed ice to half glass height
plenty of mint and sugar (or sugar syrup instead of sugar)
Crush the mint into the ice with a pestle (or similar)
Add soda water (or lemonade if you like it sweet)

Sit back on your sun lounger (!) and enjoy.

Some people like to add rum to their Mojito's - its an optional extra though

I could understand a few question marks beside the Midori but not the Limoncello, ice cold in a shot glass.unless of course you have bottle of sainsburys Limoncello which is sugared lemon coloured water, ugh!
