Acrylic topped cement shower trays vs acrylic
Discussion
It depends on whether you want to stand on a wobbly, creaky bit of plastic that rocks distorts when you stand on it, or if you prefer something a bit more substantial underfoot. Our resin based one is as tough as old boots and feels like a quality bit of kit. Stayed with a mate over new year and his plastic shower tray made me seasick..............
I think I'd go with stone resin/concrete/whatever rather than the steel-reinforced plastic ones. We've had both, for our previous house with a pretty standard quadrant base I used a solid one; very easy to keep clean, felt rock solid when you stood on it and still looked like new after years of use.
This house I fitted a fibreglass/steel one because the shower is a fancy design to fit the space and it was the only option. It was much more trouble to adjust and fit properly. It was fine at first but after 4yrs or so has started creaking every now and then and basically neither of us likes it and I've thought about making a custom one-off in a more solid material.
The solid ones are/were far more expensive but a bathroom isn't something you want to change every few years so it's money well spent IMO.

Just came across this topic.
I think the slimline ones look far better but beware of the B&Q ones. The vast majority of the B&Q slimline acryllic ones are distorted/bowed. If anyone is considering buying one, check it with a spirit level (borrowed from the tools aisle if needs be) before buying.
I went to two different stores, and checked 7 of them and they were all bowed. Pointed it out to the staff and got a 'shrug' for my trouble.
