Guys, I wonder if anyone knows this car. I've spoken to the owner who says its fine except for a noise from the engine / fan / aircon. He's not sure which, though as they are a race mechs, I thought this a little odd

Front suspension replaced and back fine. Box and diffs are fine I'm told.

What attracts me is the condition and spec.

The car is without MOT, which I would need to buy it, but I wondered if anyone knows the car or any specifc test I need to be thinking about re. the engine.

Its the blue one in Iver, ust under £2k if the link doesn't work

Thanks

From the pics it looks good, description sounds good.
But why wouldn't a bunch of mechanics put it through MOT? I'd have thought the time & effort would be more than recouped in the selling price?
  • I have no mechanical knowledge. The car may be perfect, but personally I'd look elsewhere, gut feeling there's summat wrong?

yes It's a very good price if it costs a couple of hundred to put it through an MOT. But if that was the case why haven't they done it and put it up for £3.5K?

I'd pay a deposit and ask them to put it through an MOT first. If they say no, run away.

^^^ What he said.

If a car "will sail through an MOT" then I'd MOT it before selling. Makes it more attractive to a potential buyer.

Brake pipes are a known issue on P38s of that age. (Rusting/corroding)

I got an advisory on mine (a 2000 car) last year.

As mine is a "keeper" I am planning on getting a decent job done on the brake lines rather than a "get through the MOT" job..... which is going to cost a few quid.

They seem to 'deal' a few cars too, currently also have these for sale:

If they are competent enough to engineer and fit a supercharger to a P38; then they are competent enough to put one through an MOT. There is something very wrong here.

Thanks Chaps. You have echoed many of my thoughts here. It does look well looked after through which is the only possitive as far as I can see.

Its odd they have spent quite a bit on it and then stopped short of MOTing it however.
