Just met Steve Peat

As per title, one of his sponsors (muckoff I believe) is arranging a 12hr xc race in April, at a little know downhill/xc course in East Sussex. As I ride this pretty often, I went along to see how 'Peaty' got on, on a course he has never ridden, in what can only be described as 'less than ideal' conditions!
On one section, there is a number of berms, then about 30m straight, to a steep 20m ish decent, with a sharp lefthand bermed corner at bottom. There are a couple of camera men on the course for promo shots, so the first run he goes 'slow' so the camera men can get set up... second run on the last decent, he wheelies the first 3 or 4m and then takes off like a rocket scrabbling round the bottom berm... last run, he hits the top of the decent, pulls a jump and sails for 3 or 4 metres, landing just over a small rise in the hill, and then blasts the rest of the hill/berm. We were left speechless... we have ridden this decent 100's of times, but Peaty within 1 go, has gone faster and harder than we have ever done (we must be a bunch of softies)

The difference between amateur good, and world pro is amazing. Pro's are simply in another league to us mortals. Must have been great to see him go. Would love to spend a few hours with someone so good to see what you can pick up from them.

Legend - I met him at Bike96 (a long time ago, and I was 17) and he was at the top of his game then. That he's still in the mix is incredible. Back then I think he had just ridden to a Worlds win on a rigid Kona (nutter) and was soon to sign for Saracen - probably - not sure but it was many moons ago. Remember getting autographs from him, Dave Hemming and Rob Warner on a Chainspotting promotional poster.
Anyone that hasn't seen him in Seasons needs to stick a copy in the DVD player. His bike handling is fantastic.

I met him in Hawaii of all places...i was there with my wife on a sort of once in a lifetime holiday and there just happened to be a world cup downhill on during the time we where there. Honest dear I really didn't know, but our hotel overlooked the course finish
